Awakening

You can start awakening
You can start awakening the body mind

I traveled far into the north to remind me where I came from
Pulled back a month in time I found the land had reawakened
Boots sunk hard in crusted snow grappling tight to weary feet
The time was ripe to let my body learn a language deep

Chorus I
Have you heard the wind?
Southern winds whistling pine needle clusters
Have you heard the wind?
Water rushing through rock-walled canyons
Do you feel the sun?
Kiss your face through frosted naked branches
Do you feel the sun?
Luring light and warmth relieve your tired bones

At first I did not hear the words the land had whispered to me
Land cannot speak, I avowed through language steeped in feeling
But hold she would the striking sun seducing my great pleasure
Of awakening to Mother's gifts in bountiful sweet freedom

Chorus II
Can you taste the snow?
Frosted leaves clinging to last season
Can you taste the snow?
Cartwheel tumble in footprint chasms
Have you smelled the burst?
Pinpoints of life seduce sun stirrings
Have you smelled the burst?
Survivors bud beneath winter's scale
Have you seen the ice?
Melting forward, downhill pathways, trails
Have you seen the ice?
Rushing, cleansing, breath life awakens you

You can start awakening
You can start awakening the body mind

See the ice cleanse the trail
Smell the burst stir the buds
Taste the snow footprint flakes
Feel the sun warm your bones
Hear the wind hear the wind wake your soul

Born

I knew all I needed before I was born
Before I came into this world
I knew how to be love
And that was more than enough
Before I was born

I brought the world joy when I was born
The hearts I touched were filled with hope
If I could just be love
I'd be more than enough
Oh when I was born

And then I grew up and forgot who I was
That I was someone created to love
I could not give love
I felt I wasn’t enough
Oh, when I grew up

Bridge:
I struggled through trials believed I was no good
I listened to the outside world
Went chasing rainbows
But found no pot of gold
I fought windmill dragons in my mind
Traveled through the world and wound up back at home
When I finally looked inside

And in my silence I remembered I knew
Before I came into this world
That I could be love
I’d be more than enough
I could just be love

There in my silence I remember my truth
That I can be love: I am more than enough: I can just be love

My Baby

Chorus
My baby loves to play
My baby loves to play all day
My baby loves to play
So look out girls he's a comin' my way

I work so hard all night long
So when I comes home at the crack of dawn
He greets me with his song and a well-earned smile
And wraps me in his arms to escape my trials

Chorus

Bridge
He says the babies they've been cryin'
But so sweet when they're a lyin'
In their beds so safe and warm
The dog's a howlin' tunes
To the cat jumpin' the moon
While we sneaks ourselves a tender storm

Chorus

There's nothing like my honey in a blissful tryst
Believe me sweet heaven on earth exists
So see ya later girls I've got business so fine
With the man who said "I do" way back in eighty-nine

Chorus

My baby loves me
All night long and through the day

One Step Forward, Three Steps Back

I had a talk with myself the other day.
I sat myself down and I had my say.
I said "self, you've become much too lazy
and your spiritual path has become quite hazy.
It's a good thing you have me to keep you in line
and it pains me to say this one more time:

Chorus
We've taken one step forward and three steps back.
We've fallen out of the love and we're feeling the lack.
One step forward and three steps back."

I said "you had good intentions right from the start.
And there's just no questioning your generous heart.
But when it comes to meditating every day,
you did it last week, but now I have to say:

Chorus
Bridge
"And then there were those big plans about joining a gym
You promised me we'd eat right and become so trim.
Then I heard a smaller voice that's been easy to ignore,
I heard:

You're running circles around this life you live
leaving no time to breathe, no time to forgive.
So stop all the lines that say you can't do it.
Life is a journey that requires living through it.
Take each misstep as a cue from within
To create your new dance with a whole new spin.

Chorus
Now I'm taking one step forward and two steps back.
I'm feeling part of the love and there's no turning back.
One step forward and two steps back.

So I'll take a deep breath and make plenty of mistakes,
and know the light from within by the shadow it makes.
I'll do my best to value both the ebb and the flow
and enjoy the dual nature of life's grand show.

Chorus
I'm taking one step forward and two steps back.
I'm feeling part of the love and there's no more lack.
One step forward and I "two-step" back
Yes, one step forward and let's..... "two-step" back.

Harvest Soup

Celery simmers, steam into the night
Onions tear, then take flight
Garlic roasts, the rising moon
Yes! Vegetable broth fills my spoon

Pumpkins blaze, 'cross wilted fields
Tender squash, mixes full yield
Tomatoes fill, my hands with sun
Potatoes cede to ripeness done

Chorus
Fine wines of autumn, the farmers are parading
Fruits of labor rise and fall, a ripened serenading
Baskets heave and brim, the bounty of the hoop
Before the first frost nips, aged for harvest soup

Second crops, satisfy the pot
Cilantro dill, float to the top
Oregano, sage speak wisdom true
Thyme holds still within the brew

Bellies wait, strong aromas float
Yeast-filled bread, dressed in butter coats
Grace spills forth, sounding thankful words
Oh how our gratefulness is heard

Chorus

I give this cup of the harvest moon to you
I give this cup of the summer sun to you
I give this cup of the wizened earth
Of all the good things that bring us birth
I give this cup of love to you

Peace Inside

Leaves are falling all around as growth is heading underground
Chaos shakes me yet I’ve found that I have a peace inside

Beginnings of a different kind burrow slowly through my mind
And yet throughout it all I find that I have a peace inside

Chorus
Change of seasons, change of heart
Grace-filled brushfire, make a new start

Swirling flames on windy hills digging in for winter’s chill
The howling winds inside are still and I have a peace inside

Chorus

Swirling flames on windy hills digging in for winter’s chill
The howling winds inside are still and I have a peace inside

Right Now

Worry is about your future
Self criticism 'bout your past
The only thing we have is right now
The only thing that really lasts

The now is your ticket into
The healing that you really need
The only thing we have is right now
It's all contained within that seed

Chorus
Right now...(there is no problem)
Right now...(there's no regrets)
Right now...(there's nothing that needs solving)
Right now...(just take a breath)

It doesn't matter what your into
All trouble now is done and gone
The only thing you have is right now
This moment right here in this song

Chorus

Bridge
Om…
It's presence
It's bliss
It's God's forever kiss

Chorus

Having trouble seeing all the beauty?
Has compassion dried and blown away?
The only thing you have is right now
The now is always here to stay

Chorus

Right now...(just take a breath)
Om…

Great Spirit

Autumn sun through burnt sienna trees
Autumn night its moonbeams beckon me
To the dance of falling leaves
O Great Spirit set me free

Evening air is crisp the stars shine bright
Filling night with ethereal light
My heart longs for something more
O Great Spirit, show what life is for

Chorus
Moon pulls tides, tugs my heart
Foolish pride, tears me apart
Sister Moon, make me whole
Mother Earth heal my soul

Smoky spirals from burning leaves
Haunting me with memories
Wounded hearts ancient tears
O Great Spirit soothe my fears

O bright stars on dark waters shine
Twinkling lights like diamonds in my mind
Through my darkness I come to find
O Great Spirit make me wise

Trouble at the Border

High noon in my monkey mind; the shadows drawin' near
We won’t find out who’s left standin'; until the dust clouds clear

Standin' tall my heat’s gone packin’; panic rises in my throat
However will I win this duel? Against a clever foe

Chorus I
There’s trouble at the border; there’s somethin' goin' down
There’s trouble at the border; that old monkey’s hangin' round
That monkey’s busy telling me, “You’d better turn and run”
There’s trouble at the border, there’s fightin' to be done
There's fightin' to be done

Salty fears spillin' down my face; beady eyes starin' back at me
Graspin' tight to old habits dear; my racin' heart can't see

Bridge
Dust keeps coverin' up my dreams
That blowin' wind, she’s howlin' loud
Sage breaks through the splittin' earth
Commands the rains to quench its thirst

Chorus I

Rains from papa sky cleanse my foggy mind; mama earth calms my fears
As their child I feel humbled; there is no threat, it's clear

What comes through to me as I face him down; the choice is up to me
I'm more interested in movin' past his duel; to be what I can see

Chorus II
There’s trouble at the border; there’s somethin' goin' down
There’s trouble at the border; that old monkey’s hangin' round
So when that monkey's tellin' me, "You better turn and run"
I'll walk right past and tip my hat; singin', "Been a pleasure, son"
It's been a pleasure, son
Ahhhhhhhh-ah-ah-ah

You Remind Me of Someone

You remind me of someone, I can’t put my finger on it
You remind me of someone, my friend
You remind me of someone, let's just sit and think some on it
Here I am with that someone, again

It’s that same situation, that came up for me last summer
It’s that same situation, my friend
It’s that same situation, that I once had with my mother
Here I am with that someone, again

Chorus
Here I am, mirror in my hand
What a place to be
Here I am, mirror in my hand
What I’m seeing is me

I am here with my teacher, there’s something I can’t stand about her
I am here with my teacher, my friend
Yes I know you’re my teacher, and we couldn’t be more different
Here I am with that someone, again

Chorus

Bridge
Yes Narcissus, it's all about you, just like it's all about me
So when your gaze, looks through to your heart
You'll see right through to we

You remind me of someone, yes we're all in this together
You remind me of someone, my friend
What if I chose that someone, to help see what needs attending?
What if I chose that someone, again?

Tag
What if we choose our someones, to help us look into the mirror?
Here I am with my someone, again

Chorus

Here I am

Autumn Changes

Pumpkin ripe on dying vine
Cold chill frosts the evening
Moon lies low in amber tones
How summer’s light is fading

Autumn changes slow me down
One more cycle closing
Garden treasures plucked and stored
Reveal the earth reposing

Chorus I
Autumn changes, changing me
I’m swept up in its circling
Cycle circling, turning; cycle circling, turning

Scent of autumn fills my breath
A time for reflection
The hard-worked land needs her rest
She signals life’s completion

Regal earth parades her robes
Crimson at her feet
Rushing leaves roll rhythmic songs
Across the mother’s heart-beat

Chorus II
Autumn changes, changing me
The rhythm of the seasons
Cycle circling, turning
Cycle circling, turning

Instinctual migration
Birds drawn to southern climes
Know in spring birds will return
A mystery in due time

Chorus I

Quiet reflection
A change of direction
A time for contemplation
Quiet reflection
A change of direction
Embrace regeneration
Cycle circling, turning; cycle circling, turning

Translucent Moon

Oh it seems
So it seems

Translucent moon, do you see through me
As it seems, I see through you
Up in the sky and yet so near the earth
I feel I could touch your face

Translucent moon, the sun's still shining
Yet there you are, smiling down
Do you bring the stars to light my path
As darkness closes in? As darkness closes in?

Chorus I
Oh it seems the choice is simple
So it seems the choice is clear
Walk away from life's eclipses
Know the darkness is illusion
Hold your dreams up to the light

Translucent moon, is it my destiny
To touch and hold another's hand
Teach me to trust, to open up my heart
And be the love I'm meant to be
Be the love I'm meant to be

Chorus II
The choice is simple
The choice is clear
Let the stars that glow within you
Be a candle in the window
To guide your soul at night

Translucent moon, do you see through me

Her Name Was Mary

She came on a boat as a young girl of nine
And she lost a sister at sea
She spoke not a word of the language she heard
When she came to the land of the free

She raised a large family, ten children in all
And the kids never knew they were poor
She made something from nothing, soup from flour and milk
Scraps of cloth became clothing and quilts

Chorus
And her name was Mary
She was married to John at the tender age of sixteen
She worked hard all her life
As a mother and wife and she never complained so it seemed
To me, to me, to me, to me

I remember my grandmother’s hands
As she’d tat and she’d sew and quilt
With those small wrinkled hands she would pull me aside
And she’d make me feel special to her

Bridge
Her arms stretched as wide as the ocean
Her heart was as big as the sea
Her love seemed as bright as the sunshine, to me, to me.
She believed in angels, who helped her along
Through the difficult times, through the frailties of age
And the failings of her body and her mind.

Chorus

My Grandmother’s memories drifted away
The stars in her eyes, they grew dim
The language she heard, it seemed foreign to her
Like the days when she came to this land.

Day by day she slipped through our fingers
The disease drew her further away
‘Til the angels she loved gently lifted her up
And they brushed away all of her pain

Chorus

And her name was Mary
